IEEE Global Museum
The IEEE Global Museum presented by IEEE History Center promotes the historical understanding of electrotechnology and its impact upon society. IEEE History Center staff work with local and national museums, private collectors, universities, corporations, and other organizations to install traveling exhibits at technology museums or IEEE conferences, facilities, and events around the world, from a single treasured artifact to a full collection.
The first IEEE Global Museum exhibit “Unseen Signals: E. Howard Armstrong’s Radio Revolution” launched in November 2024 at the National Museum of Industrial History (NMIH) in Bethlehem, PA. It is currently on display at the Infoage Museums in Wall, NJ until December 28, 2025.
The second IEEE Global Museum exhibit “Microchips That Shook the World” will open to the public on October 11, 2025 at the Attleboro Area Industrial Museum in Attleboro, MA. This inspiring traveling exhibit explores how microchips function and the vital roles they play in electronic technology.
Throughout 2024 and 2025 the IEEE Global Museum curated exhibits at the flagship conferences of several IEEE Societies, including the DEIS, VTS, APS, and ComSoc. The interpretive materials span many time periods and IEEE fields and can be downloaded here.
IEEE History Center staff continue to work with other IEEE OUs under the rubric of the IEEE Global Museum to enhance event and conference experiences through historical exhibits.
